Pinterest Contest for the Home!

Summer is here; yard sales, ice-cream, mojitos (not to be confused with mosquito which are also prevalant) bonfires, smores, swimming and bbqs. In relation to this blog and all things for the home, I have considered entering a home contest (for the summer) on Pinterest to possibly score some good deals and get some great recipes and tips along the way.

The Pinterest contest I have chosen is Design* Sponge Summer Party. Design* Sponge is a blog that is everything to do with home decor and diy decor. Not only is this relevant to MY home decor blog, I think the contest is beneficial in that the participant gains new recipes and shares things of interest. The requirements for this particular contest were as follows:

-minimum of 15 pins to do with summer

-must use hashtags #designsponge #dssummerparty

This was a contest and homework assignment that I enjoyed. I absolutely love pinterest and visit the site several times a day. It was by chance that I found this particular Instagram account, but I’m glad I did. I think that more companies/organizations need to take advantage of Instagram in order to put their products or services out there and let them speak for their own.  I find it beneficial that there are more people partaking in Pinterest and allowing themselves to be more creative all the while allowing for the company to gain some attention and interact with their audiences in a new, fresh and creative way.

The Difference Between Vintage Inspired and Your Grandma’s House; Modern Elements

Sometimes I cringe when people say, “I just love vintage style, that’s why I like the rustic look of Pottery Barn.” First off, I have nothing against the fine people of Pottery Barn, but keeping to true vintage style, nothing that you can purchase out of a brand-spanking-new catalog is truly, well, “vintage.” When you think of vintage style, start off first with your grandma’s house. Are nostalgic memories of your grandmother’s handmade quilts, lovely (made of real wood) secretaries and hand carved dining chairs or her one of a kind oil paintings coming to mind? How about that lovely china set on display with the intricate little daisies painted along the edges? These items are what vintage style is all about. Anything with history, anything re-purposed for new uses, anything that you see that is a second-hand treasure, is vintage.

Modern Vintage design, however, is about creating that perfect mix of vintage elements with modern. When I say modern I don’t exactly mean space age/futuristic pieces, I want  you to think of abstract art, clean geometric lines and simple, yet bold color schemes; these elements added to your vintage inspired home will keep your space feeling modern and fresh, but with all the good feelings of grandma’s house.
